Sunrise Horse Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Calistoga, California. Our mission is to rescue and provide sanctuary for abused and neglected horses in Napa and surrounding counties, as well as educate the public about current issues affecting horse welfare, and provide community members with the unique benefit of equine-assisted learning & therapy.
In addition to providing forever homes at our sanctuary, we regularly assist horses and horse owners in need by offering food, temporary shelter, foster homes, permanent placement assistance, veterinary care or consultations, and information regarding horse health, dietary needs, and geriatric care.
Sunrise Horse Rescue is a place where people and horses can connect on a deeper level and build relationships based on mutual respect, trust and compassion.
Sunrise programs are designed to connect horses with humans in our community, focusing on learning, communication, and nature. Programs include those for people living with dementia and their caregivers, at-risk youth, cancer survivors, personal development, team building and children learning about the natural world. From scouts to senior citizens, everyone gains a sense of healing and hope. The horses have a role again and thrive on the interaction. A bond made with a horse can be magical and often leaves us wondering, “Who’s saving whom?”
