Brown Estate Vineyards is the first and only Black-owned estate winery in California’s Napa Valley, and is best known for its well-regarded zinfandel. In addition to zinfandel, Brown Estate Vineyards produces cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, and petite sirah.
In 1980, Dr. Bassett Brown and his wife Marcela purchased an abandoned ranch in the eastern hills of the Napa Valley. They rehabilitated the crumbling homestead and planted viniferous grapes—which were farmed and sold to local winemakers until 1995. That year, the Brown family began making its own wine. Today, the growing operation offers tastings at its downtown location (reservations are required on Saturday and Sunday).
