Event Description:
The seventh annual "Spirits of St. Helena" Cemetery Discovery Walk will take place on Saturday, November 7 from 1-4p.m. Attendees will tour with a guide to hear 10-minute presentations and converse with each of the 'spirits'. Tours will leave at 1:30, 2:00 and 2:30pm from the entrance gate at Spring and Chardonnay Streets. In case of rain, the event will move indoors. This year's theme is, "Women Who Left Their Mark.” Those featured are: Sarah Chase Bourn, matriarch of a prominent local family, who managed hundreds of acres of vineyard; Lola Grace Mackinder, who published the St. Helena Star newspaper; Ivy Loeber, a local historian who helped found the Napa County Historical Society; Fanny Schneider, whose adventurous life included serving in the Civil War; Clarice Vance, a famed jazz singer: and Hannah Weinberger, one of the first women to own a winery.
